Tewfiq, Haji
(1863-1950)
   Haji Tewfiq—whose nom de plume was Piremerd, or the Old Man — was one of the most important figures of modern Kurdish literature. A journalist from Sulaymaniya, he was for many years the editor of Jin, an excellent literary magazine. He also was known as a poet, storyteller, and translator and was endowed with an excellent sense of humor. Much admired by the Kurdish public, his work illustrated the beauty of the Kurds' land, language, literature, and history.
